Chaats are a very popular dish as it takes great and is very quick to make. There are so many different types of chaat and everyone has their own take on it. This is my version on the papri chaat and I hope you like it too!

Papri Chaat (Savoury Yogurt Snack)

Serves 6



30 Papris (Flat Puris available in Indian Grocery Shops

500g Yogurt – whisk 4tbsp Sugar add a little water to loosen and leave for a while

1 Can/400g Chickpeas- Washed and Drained (Season with Salt and Chilli Powder)

1 Red Onion- Finely Chopped

As Much Sev As You Like – Crispy Savoury Snack Available in Indian Grocery Shop

Handful Fresh Coriander- Finely Chopped for Decoration

2 Large Potatoes- Boiled in Salt Water, Cooled and Cubed (Season with Salt and Chilli Powder)

1 tsp Roasted Cumin Powder

1-2 tbsp Tamarind Chutney- You can add more if you like it sweet


Green Chutney and Red Chutney can also be added together with the tamarind chutney but I haven’t added it on this occasion.



On a plate, place the papris (whole) next to each other without overlapping. Sprinkle the chickpeas, onions and potatoes all over the top of the papris. Top with the yogurt, tamarind chutney and sev. Lastly sprinkle the cumin powder and coriander on top. Serve immediately otherwise the dish will get soggy. This should be eaten as soon as it is made as there should be a crunch to the dish.
